Based on recent incidences, we’ve got two new rules concerning canon updates and leaving the city.

1. Canon updates. For a while now, it’s been generally accepted for a character to leave the city for a week when receiving a canon update. To standardize the updating process, we will be making this a rule. When your character leaves for a canon update, then they cannot be missing from the city for more than two weeks (if there is a hiatus accompanying this, then it will be addressed on an individual basis).

2. Leaving the city. Your characters cannot leave the city except with special permission from the mods. At this point in time, the only reason a character may leave the city is during special mod events and canon updates. If you hiatus, your character is still in the city. If you’re inactive, your character is still in the city until they are AC’d.

If you’re confused about something, feel free to contact one of the mods. We’ll be sure to clear things up for you.

In terms of the world system and story what is the reasoning behind a character leaving for a canon update? I mean in some games they just go and come back but it seems like Discedo wouldn't work that way.

Do the Scientists just send them home then pull them back with no explanation?

basically, that's right! canon-updating is treated sort of similarly to dropping and reapplying for a character: the reasons for their disappearance, like when they're dropped and reapplied for, are not explained by the Scientists, but a lot of characters assume they just get sent home and brought back.

...Aha. I asked several players here from Discedo who all told me all I needed to do was make a post concerning a canon update. I looked before and couldn't find any information on canon updates.

So, I just want to make sure it's okay for Kyon (

lunchpenalty) to get a canon update. Do I need any special permission, or is it okay for him to just poof for a week or so while he gets a canon-update? Basically, is it any different than "leaving the city" where you need mod permission?

Ah, sorry for the late response. If you could tell me the changes the canon update'll have on your character, that'll be enough for an approval. We just make people clear it with us so it's not like "SUDDENLY, MY CHARACTER HAS ALL THESE AWESOME POWERSSS"

The canon update wouldn't have any kind of magical powers-effect on him. Kyon is completely human and lacking any supernatural powers. I wanted to do it for personality reasons. I like the later-series Kyon, where he's more intelligent, more sarcastic, and a wee bit suspicious of all things around him.

...So, if canon-updates for this reason are unacceptable, I understand. |D; I just fail at searching for these kinds of things.

B-But yeah! The new!Kyon would be from volume 9 of the Haruhi novels, which is also equivalent to episode 28 of the Haruhi anime.

Sounds good to me! Consider the update approved! Just make sure to remind us to change the Timeline on the Taken Character's list.
