Two Important Announcements!

First things first. Discedo's 4th Wall Event is just around the corner. However, this time we've decided to do things a little differently. Due to the pace of the game, this 4th Wall will last an entire week instead of just two days.

This will hopefully allow players time to enjoy their temporary guests as well keeping the community from overwhelmed.

Not just that, but this time around we'll be doing something we've never done before: Allow characters to retain memories from the event.

That's right. You heard us. You can have your characters remember 4th Wall. Or you can have them only remember certain parts of the event. Or, you know, just forget it all together!

With that said, Discedo will open it's flood gates starting May 12th and last through May 18th for 4th Wall interactions. As always, we encourage you to invite friends or bring in characters to tag around with.

Pretty much anything goes, except the obvious things:
▶Do not use this as an excuse to harass or flame players/characters.
▶Post only once for each character during the event. This will prevent excessive clutter in the community and make it easier for visitors to tag around.
▶You may not use any threads during 4th Wall for Activity Check. Although this event will last a week, AC is every two months. Meaning players should have enough time before the next AC in July to complete the requirements needed.

A post will be going up at Midnight May 12th to kick the event off, so keep your eyes peeled for it!

But wait! There's MORE!

In response to the most recent feedback post.. oh man, do WE have an offer for you. Monsters are hard to come by, and us mods honestly haven't played all the video games in the world, watched all the anime, or read all the manga. But, as a whole game together, we get pretty darn close: and why stop at that?

So, I ask you, DISCEDO, to throw us EVERY awesome monster you have ever come across in the history of your LIVES. What monsters you throw at us is going to influence future plots, and the more the merrier. We'll do it Q&A style to help guide you guys through this

What kind of Monsters can be presented?
Pretty much anything. If the monster appears in large numbers in the game or canon, then its definitely something you can offer. For example, Malboro from FFX are so legit.

For obvious reasons, monsters with LOADS of canon for a specific character can't be accepted. Pikachu may run amass in Pokemon, but because of Ash's pikachu, it wouldn't work out. Same with Digimon characters: they can be roleplayed, and thus, we can't accept them as game monsters

How about from the real world?
Yes, by real world I mean the world we are all living in; earth!! If you want to suggest bears, THEN YES suggest bears! Moose? YOU BETCHA we love moose! Electric eels? Sure!

Can I make up my own monster?
YES!!! The monsters you suggest for an original monster will become Disco!verse monsters, much like the skin stealers or wordsharks. These original monsters can be anything of your own imagination. When you design them, we'd like if you gave us as MUCH info about it as possible so that we get a clear grasp of the possibilities your monster has.

No canon-AU monsters, though. We don't really want to see a squirtle-chocobo crossover just 'cause.

Will you accept all the monsters?
We want to accept as many as possible. If you've followed the guidelines above, then yeah, there's a pretty good chance the monster is getting in. So feel free to suggest all the monsters you want!

What sort of monsters are you looking for?
We definitely want a wide variety of monsters, so anything from cute to scary, big to small, normal to supernatural is really great! If you can only think of cute monsters (because we all know Dekus from Zelda are totes adorable) then yes give us them!!

So that covers that! I've made some spiffing forms for everyone to fill out if they want to suggest a monster. This form will be attended until May 31st. After that you can continue to post monsters to the suggestions box, but original monsters wont be accepted any longer.

[ CANON ]

Monster Name: Any of the species of small Malboro. (Vivian, Cassie, Malboro Overking, specifically)

Canon: Final Fantasy XII

Description: They are relatively squat creatures with gaping, toothed mouths and a litany of tentacles. They come in a variety of colors though green is the most common. They are roughly four to five feet tall but there's a little variation if they stretch their tentacles to boost themselves up.

Strengths; Status effects!!! No, seriously. Their breath is noxious and is known to poison, paralyze, confuse, and put people to sleep. Sometimes it can even turn a person to stone. It is bad news. Sometimes it can even cause a character to go into berserk mode and attack relentlessly.

Weaknesses; They're not particularly resistant to physical attacks and are perpetually weak to fire. It won't be hard to take one of them out if you're skilled. Also, they're not particularly intelligent.

Special powers/attacks: The breath, the breath of DOOM.

Picture Reference: A reference picture of a Cassie!

Outside Reference: Page for Vivian, lookin' swank. Also there are links below on that page for the others I've mentioned.

Is it edible? ... um. I'm sure that it is, but you'd better cook it really well just in case of poison.

Difficulty to fight: If you get it before it uses its breath, 3 or 4. If you don't it can definitely jump up to a good 6 or 7.

Other: They are forever adorable.

[ CANON ]
Monster Name: Swamp Dragons Draco Vulgaris
Canon: Discworld
Species: Dragon
Description: Copy paste from the wiki
"Draco vulgaris" literally means "common dragon". These dragons are generally called swamp dragons because they evolved in swamps, where there is rather little that can be used as fuel, and this is a problem for animals that create flame to incubate eggs, fight off enemies, predators, and other dragons (competitors for food or territory), or just to dispel boredom. Swamp dragons compensate for this by evolving a huge appetite for anything that can be used for combustion. Swamp dragons can rearrange their "internal plumbing", guts, stomach, other miscellaneous tubes, to make the best use of what they have eaten, and to make the hottest flame they can. When having indigestion (a common ailment for swamp dragons), or being over-excited, a dragon tends to explode, which is the most common (practically the only) cause of death for swamp dragons. Swamp dragons are almost permanently ill; the famous swamp dragon breeder, Lady Sybil Ramkin, has written a book listing all swamp dragon diseases, their symptoms, causes, treatments, and so on.
Swamp dragons can grow up to about two feet long. All have wings although for some the wings are only ornamental. Swamp dragons can fly, and have to answer to real physics when they do (see Noble dragon (Draco nobilis) for a comparison).
Strengths; Can breath fire. Can fly.
Weaknesses; Chronically ill. Prone to indigestion. Explode on the slightest of pretexts.
Special powers/attacks: Can rearrange their own internal organs to build a hotter flame.
Picture Reference: Picture
Outside Reference: Here
Is it edible? ...Probably not.
Difficulty to fight: 1 They'll explode as soon as you try.
Other: They have been tamed as pets before.

Monster Name: Midgar Zolom
Canon: FF7
Species: Serpent
Description: A species of serpents (snakes)that live in wet, cool areas like marshlands and are well over 30 feet tall. It resembles something of a gray looking cobra, but it's not poisonous.
Strengths; Other than being a snake it has size and height on it's size. It can detect movements easily in places like marshes and pick up on body heat.
Weaknesses; They don't really have any. They don't have any physical or magical weaknesses. Though poisoning them seem to work effectively, though it's a slow process.
Special powers/attacks: Every snake bite and the last thing you want to be is bitten by one. Might snap you in half. The only real attack you want to watch out for is Beta. It's a massive-fire based magic damage on all opponents that can't be reflected. Also, it can use its tail to knock enemies back a great distance.

[personal profile] thatpeskyninja 2012-05-04 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
[ CANON ]
Monster Name: Cactuar/Cactuer
Canon: FF7
Species: Cactus
Description: Little cacti, typically depicted having stiff arms and legs, three black holes for their faces, representing two eyes and an oblong mouth, and three yellowish quills at the top of their heads.
Strengths; Though they have low health they have very HIGH defense not to mention they have a pretty high evade so they tend to run away before you have the chance to do anything.
Weaknesses; The Cactuar is immune to all elements except for Wind and poison. (Cactuer doesn't have any immunities so any element could work on it.)
Special powers/attacks: 1000 needles is not fun. They only use this usually as a counter method or if they feel threatened. (Cactuer only use this move. Cactuar does not.) For the most part they usually use physical attacks.
Picture Reference: Picture
Outside Reference: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Cactuer http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Cactuar_%28Final_Fantasy_VII%29
Is it edible? I don't think it'd taste so good with needles all in it.
Difficulty to fight: Cactuar: 3 Cactuer:5)
Other: There isn't much difference in looks with the cacti at all. It's hard to realize which one is which.

[personal profile] thatpeskyninja 2012-05-04 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
[ CANON ]
Monster Name: Chao
Canon: Sonic the hedgehog (SA2)
Species: Chao
Description: Chao are small creatures with a pudding-like body and behave much like human infants, with pleasant and relaxing personalities. They're usually have blue bodies with a yellow floating ball on top of their heads that depict their current emotion at the time. They also have pink wings. They enjoy toys and being held and petted. They always hatch from an egg in the beginning stages. They can speak, but not terribly much.
Strengths; None. It all depends on how they are raised or what they learn on their own by adapting to their surroundings. They survive by being able to capture features of other creatures (or people) they touch.
Weaknesses; They are essentially weak anyway since they are more like infants when they hatch. It depends on what abilities they have learned.
Special powers/attacks: Again, it depends on how well they are raised for them to have any special abilities. Chao's are harmless, unless for some reason you want to try and get one mad at you.

[ CANON ]
Monster Name: Blood Blossoms
Canon: Danny Phantom
Species: Plant
Description: Blood Blossoms are blood-red flowers with anti-supernatural properties and were used by John Fenton Nightingale (an ancestor of the modern Fentons.) Blood Blossoms were used to great effect against witches and ghosts/spirits when in their presence--rendering them not only powerless, but would have ghosts and familiar spirits withering in agony until the flowers were removed. Vlad referred to them as "a primitive Spectre Deflector"-- (which are only effective on physical contact). Blood Blossoms are also edible, they are seen as an excellent garnish in sandwiches. Once Blood Blossoms have been ingested (chewed, swallowed and deposited in the stomach) it can no-longer affect a ghost. Blood Blossoms are to the supernatural as Kryptonite is to Superman - but while Superman was spared from the effects of Kryptonite when it was locked up in a lead container - a ghost/spirit/witch is safe from Blood Blossoms if the flowers are simply consumed by a normal human/animal.
Strengths; Extremely effective against ghosts and half-ghosts. Can drive them away or trap them.
Weaknesses; Harmless to humans. Easy to dispose of.
Special powers/attacks: only against ghosts.
Picture Reference: Here
Outside Reference:
Is it edible? Yes. Apparently it tastes good in sandwiches.

[ REAL WORLD ]
Animal Name: The Mothman
Habitat: Forests
Species: Unknown
Description: No one has ever gotten a clear look at it. But there have been multiple witness accounts of encounters.

"flying man with ten foot wings"
"large bird with red eyes"
eyes glowed "like bicycle reflectors"
"a huge creature about 7 feet tall with huge wings and red eyes"

A researcher later assembled the sightings into an overall picture of the creature.

"According to their reports, the creature stood between five and seven feet tall, was wider than a man and shuffled on human-like legs. Its eyes were set near the top of the shoulders and had bat-like wings that glided, rather than flapped, when it flew. Strangely though, it was able to ascend straight up “like a helicopter”. Witnesses also described its murky skin as being either gray or brown and it emitted a humming sound when it flew. The Mothman was apparently incapable of speech and gave off a screeching sound. Mrs. Bennett stated that it sounded like a “woman screaming”."

Strengths; Could fly fast enough to keep up with a speeding car.
Weaknesses; Unknown

[ CANON ]
Monster Name: Fire Wolf
Canon: Adventure Time
Species: They're wolves that live in the Fire Kingdom so. WOLVES.
Description: Fire wolves appear to be pretty similiar to regular black wolves with a few notable physical differences: their fur seems to have "cracks" in it, much like red lava shining through cooled, black lava. Pups are adorably rolly polly and fluffy, much like any other canine puppy. Their eyes have bright yellow sclera with orange pupils.

Their body temperatures naturally run hot. Touching or even being licked by a fire wolf can result in burns.
Strengths; Aside from having the strength and capability of normal wolves, they're also fire proof.
Weaknesses; Snow Golems and pears. God do they hate pears.

It's unclear whether too much water will actually kill them, but it definitely serves as a deterrent and can dampen their fire powers. A little water doesn't seem to do much damage, however, so merely throwing a bottle of water at them really won't do anything (as shown when the fire wolf pup in "Thank You" melted snow around it with no detrimental effects to itself).
Special powers/attacks: Regardless of age, they occasionally burst into flames. Adults may have some control over this ability, but pups seem to have little control and will burst into flames if they're overly excited or just because. After being encompassed in flames, their bodies will return to its previous wolf-y state.
Picture Reference: PUPS

Annnddd some videos for extra reference:
PUUUUPPPSSSS
it is hard to feed pups
Snow Golem vs. pack of fire wolves
Outside Reference: Adventure Time Wiki
Is it edible? No. Try to eat it and you will either burn your tongue and the meat will taste like ash.
Difficulty to fight: I'd say a 6; while their fire powers raise their difficulty, they're not immune to bullets or swords or the like, nor do they seem to have any abnormal resilience.
Other: JUST GOING BY THE SERIES it does seem you'd technically be able to domesticate a fire wolf if you get a young one. Pups seem to be friendly and can attach to other species. However, their body temp still runs hot, so keeping one would be very difficult if you care if your furniture catches on fire and any affection from your pet would result in burns. THOUGH IF A CHARACTER IS FIRE PROOF I GUESS IT'D WORK???

Description:
Small flying firebreathing lizards. They come in the colors of gold, bronze, blue, and green. In order of rarity. Females are gold and green, although only the gold lizards lay eggs. They are emotionally telepathic to a limited degree, and are capable of teleporting. Adult lizards tend to be very shy of humans.
Strengths; They can breath fire and teleport. Friendly, but shy. Like music.
Weaknesses; Limited intelligence. Very sensitive to emotions.
Special powers/attacks: If they eat the right type of stone they can breath out small spurts of flame. Can sense emotions to a limited degree.

You blink. It's closer. If it touches you, you're dead. It either kills you, or sends you back in time to die the old fashioned way, by living your life out to old age.

Don't blink. c:
Strengths; Super strong. Not organic, so can't be killed by biobombs or whatever. Can live for hundreds of years.
Weaknesses; Can't move if being looked at (hence, don't blink). They cover their faces when not in motion to avoid looking at each other, lest they get trapped in a loop. Survive on radiation.

Description: The weakest of the Imp species, but also the most numerous. They can be heard playing their flutes, which they also use as a weapon. They enjoy teasing their prey by spanking their behind. They are about the same size as an average child. The mask they wear over their faces bear the kana イ. It doesn't take much to defeat them, but they just keep popping up, like flies. If there's enough of them in one place, however, the nature around them will wilt.

Strengths; Their group tactics. When there's many of them they have a better chance of overwhelming a single opponent.

Description: The transformed spirit of a woman who threw herself into the sea. They can grow a pair of wings that resemble fins to fly. While on the ground they avoid their attacker with much stealth. When they are near the end of their rope, they will grab hold of their opponent and explode in suicide in an attempt to take their opponent with them. It is possible to break out of their grasp before they explode, though.

Strengths; Avoid attacks while on the ground with surprising stealth. They like to go out kamikaze style.
Weaknesses; Weak against slashing attacks, bombs, and bullets.

Special powers/attacks: Their suicide explosion and their ability to fly by using their fins.

Species: Goat

Description: Their sensitivity is closer to an animal's than a human's, and they sometimes misunderstand their orders surprisingly foolishly. By nature, they have a huge build like a minotaur, and incredible superhuman strength. They are low-leveled as furniture, but can be very convenient as an inexhaustible supply of them can be summoned. They seem to be quite ravenous when eating, judging from how horribly mangled their victims become.

Strengths; Superhuman strength and a BIG appetite for flesh.
Weaknesses; They are usually "all brawn and no brain."

Special powers/attacks: None, really.

Picture Reference: Picture

Outside Reference: Umineko Wiki

Difficulty to fight: I would give them a 6 since they are not completely weak with that strength of theirs and they actually do have somewhat of a consciousness despite not being too intelligent.

They eat insects, birds, and small mammals. Parent Hippogriffs only lay one egg during breeding, which usually hatches within 24 hours. They are very proud creatures, so you'd better show them some respect if you know what's good for you. First, one must bow towards the creature and keep eye contact at all times. Species: Um... Dementor?

Description: A Dementor is a Dark creature, considered one of the foulest to inhabit the world. Dementors feed off human happiness, and thus cause depression and despair to anyone near them. They can also consume a person's soul, leaving their victims in a permanent vegetative state, and thus are often referred to as "soul-sucking fiends" and are known to leave a person as an "empty-shell."

Strengths; They cannot be killed, only driven away or kept back by the Patronus Charm.
Weaknesses; The Patronus Charm.

Special powers/attacks: They can suck your soul out, make their surroundings drop in temperature drastically, and before they suck out your soul they like to suck out your positive emotions and memories.

Picture Reference: Picture
Outside Reference: Harry Potter Wiki
Is it edible? UH NO
Difficulty to fight: I'd say 10 since they can't be killed.
Other: Consuming chocolate can help you if you've had a mild encounter with a Dementor, but it's no good if you've already had your soul sucked out. It is said that Dark Wizards, or any beings that are truly evil in this case, don't need to protect themselves against Dementors since they are "like minded in evil."

[ CANON ]
Monster Name: Vashta Nerada
Canon: Doctor Who
Species: something like flesh eating bacteria
Description: The Vashta Nerada are like shadows, except they aren't shadows at all. They're microscopic organisms that live in the dark and, in large numbers, are quite capable of stripping flesh from bone (hence their nickname "Piranhas of the Air").

Some suggest that the specs of dust you see floating in the light aren't dust at all; they're a single Vashta Nerada, or a small swarm of them. Luckily they're fairly harmless in small numbers. But a larger colony can and has decimated entire planets.

Strengths; Not a strength in the typical sense, but VN have a resilient life cycle. Supposedly they begin as spores in living trees, but can hatch even once the tree has been chopped down and converted into something new. This means the Vashta Nerada can survive even in the pages of books, waiting for prey to come along.

Worse yet, swarms have been proven sentient; they're able to communicate with other life forms (though only through special data chips). They're also somewhat capable of mobility (such as making the space suits of their victims walk), although it seems to be done with great difficulty and with slow, shambling movements akin to zombies. It's unclear whether or not they are capable of this sort of "possession" outside of special space suits, but given the utter creepiness of space suit zombies, why would you want to know what else they can do.

Weaknesses; According to the Doctor? None. All you can do is count the shadows and run.

Special powers/attacks: If you feel yourself getting cold as the lights go out, this could be a sign that the Vashta Nerada have you. Look down. If you see two shadows, or a shadow that seems to be cast from no discernible light source... well, it was good knowing you. Once they've got you, there is no hope.

When they eat people, it looks like the victim is enveloped in shadows. After a few minutes (of the victim's agonized screams and finally silence) the shadows disappear, leaving behind only a skeleton.

Picture Reference: Shadow form An example of the Vashta Nerada overtaking their victim's space suit THEY'RE EVERYWHERE
Outside Reference: Monster file Tardis index
Is it edible? Not in the slightest
Difficulty to fight: 10. There is virtually no way to fight off the Vashta Nerada. The only thing you can do is stay out of the dark and be on the look out for extra shadows, or the shadows of things that shouldn't exist at all.
Other: Now, this all sounds like the end of a planet, but there's some good news. Vashta Nerada, on the whole, are fairly benign and usually feed on road kill and carrion. It's only if you venture too far into the woods that you're at risk. Or if you live in a place where there is no carcasses for them to eat, in which case they'll have to hunt live food. Discedo shouldn't have much problem with that (at least not on a regular basis; an infestation, however, may just be worthy of a monster plot). Just be careful if you're going out on a hike.

Animal Name: Vipers
Habitat: A load of different places
Species: Snakes
Description: Imma just copypasta this one...
Experiments have shown that these snakes are capable of making decisions on how much venom to inject depending on the circumstances. In all cases, the most important determinant of venom expenditure is generally the size of the snake, with larger specimens being capable of delivering much more venom. The species is also important, since some are likely to inject more venom than others, may have more venom available, strike more accurately, or deliver a number of bites in a short space of time. In predatory bites, factors that influence the amount of venom injected include the size of the prey, the species of prey, and whether the prey item is held or released. The need to label prey for chemosensory relocation after a bite and release may also play a role. In defensive bites, the amount of venom injected may be determined by the size or species of the predator (or antagonist), as well as the assessed level of threat, although larger assailants and higher threat levels may not necessarily lead to larger amounts of venom being injected.[4]

Strengths; Ten feet tall, spit acid, Extremely hard shell and like to eat things human sized.
Weaknesses; Weak to fire, kind of dumb, they do chicken out. If they use their acid they can't eat for 10 hours. Oh and they hate cold, so during winter they would hibernate. However they can be found in temperate climes, just as I said, they hibernate.
Special powers/attacks: As a last resort spitting acid (but then they can't eat and mostly they attack for food), they can burrow underground to hide or surprise prey.

Monster Name: Thorny Lizzard
Canon: Petite Princess Yucie
Species: Lizzard
Description: Roughly about 5 feet in length, it's covered in large hard tough scales that protrude outwards like thorns (Hence it's name). Each of it's four legs have 4-digit clawed toes that form a foot. The creatures usually have red eyes just under a large horn that sits on it's forehead. Their mouth has a single row of sharp teeth and a tongue. It prefers it's time underground alone, but will emerge occasionally, specially when distrupted.

The Thorny Lizzard is very quick and hard to catch. It attacks mostly by charging and ramming it's horn into it's opponent. Thorny lizards only attack when they feel threatened. Their first choice of action is to escape. Sometimes it'll even detatch it's tail as a distraction while it flees. It's also naturally very strong against magic and spells.

Strengths; Hard scales make physical attacks difficult. It's also naturally very strong against magic and spells.

Monster Name: Thestral
Canon: Harry Potter
Species: Like a flying horse.
Description: A Thestral is a breed of winged horses with a skeletal body, face with reptilian features, and wide, leathery wings that resemble a bat's. They are very rare, and are considered dangerous by the Ministry of Magic. Thestrals are, undeservedly, known as omens of misfortune and aggression by many wizards because they are visible only to those who have witnessed death (and fully accepted the concept) or due to their somewhat grim, gaunt and ghostly appearance. Thestrals can be domesticated and mounted, so they are used as an alternative to brooms, Apparition and other methods of transportation. Once trained, they are very diligent and will quickly carry their owners wherever they wish to go. Due to their classification as XXXX, only experienced wizards should try to handle Thestrals. Breeding as well as owning these beasts may be discouraged or even illegal without Ministry consent; in fact, wizards that live in areas not protected against Muggles are forced by law to perform Disillusionment Charms on their Thestrals regularly.
Strengths; They are very intelligent, loyal, and can discern friend from enemy.
Weaknesses; They'll forcefully attack those they see as enemies. They're invisible to those who haven't seen or understand the concept of death.
Special powers/attacks: They can fly.

Monster Name: Basilisk
Canon: Harry Potter
Species: A snake.
Description: The Basilisk is a giant serpent, also known as the King of Serpents. It is a creature bred by Dark Wizards. Herpo the Foul was the first to breed a Basilisk, he accomplished this by hatching a chicken egg beneath a toad which resulted in the creature we now know as a Basilisk. Basilisk breeding was banned in Medieval times. The practice can be hidden when the Department for Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures comes to check by simply removing the egg from the toad. Although classified as an XXXXX creature, meaning it is a known wizard-killer that cannot be domesticated due to its immense powers, because the Basilisk is still a serpent, a Parselmouth may place a Basilisk under his or her control. This depends on the relationship between the Basilisk and the Parselmouth, as Tom Riddle, alias Lord Voldemort, was the only one who could command Salazar Slytherin's Basilisk, while Harry Potter had no control over it. The Basilisk can grow up to fifty feet in length, and is a dark green colour with large yellow eyes. These eyes have the power to instantly kill anything who looks into them. If the victim looks indirectly at the Basilisk's eyes, such as a reflection or through an object, they will merely become Petrified, as was the case with Hermione Granger and Colin Creevey, however Myrtle (commonly known as Moaning Myrtle) was not so fortunate, and looked directly into the Basilisk's eyes, which resulted in her dying immediately. Another way of surviving a Basilisk's gaze is by seeing it through another object. Another example mentioned above was when Colin Creevey saw it through his camera, resulting in his petrification and his camera lens becoming melted. Justin Finch-Fletchley saw the Basilisk through the translucent Nearly-Headless-Nick, and both were petrified. Sir Nicholas, being a ghost, was already dead; as such, he only became Petrified as well, although he did look at the beast's eyes directly. It is also known for it's ability to squeeze itself through pipes. Phoenixes (and possibly other non-human associated creatures) are immune to this deadly gaze, although spiders, such as Aragog and his ever-growing clan, are terrified of the Basilisk, and describe it as their enemy, refusing to even speak of it or mention its name. The Basilisk's sharp fangs are full of deadly venom, powerful enough to kill a human in a matter of minutes; Phoenix tears are the only cure. It can also damage inanimate objects so thoroughly that they are impossible to restore, thus it is one of the few substances destructive enough to destroy a Horcrux. The venom is potent even long after death. Basilisk skin is armored like that of a dragon's, which deflects spells cast upon it. The Basilisk sheds its skin at intervals, like all other snakes, when it grows. Basilisks can live a natural life of at least nine hundred years though Salazar Slytherin's basilisk lived for approximately a thousand years. Their mortal weakness is the crowing of a rooster. Basilisks feed off vertebrate animals. The male can be distinguished from the female by a single scarlet plume on its head.
Strengths; Looking directly at its eyes causes death. Indirectly, such as a reflection, will result in being petrified. And it's large, so it's not easy to kill.
Weaknesses; It's really large, so it's easy to see.
Special powers/attacks: Being able to petrify people or kill them by looking at them.

Monster Name: Dwarven Spider
Canon: The Elder Scrolls
Species: Animunculus (Dwemer Automaton)
Description: Roughly the size of a dog with six legs, praying mantis arms and crab pincers, the Dwarven Spider is clearly synthetic in appearance. Its body is fabricated entirely from a strange golden/bronze-colored metal that has a similar tensile strength to steel, save for the odd gyro on its “head”, which has a red gem in the center and seems to be how the construct maintains its balance. Spiders have some basic intelligence, stopping whatever they were doing if a threat is even suspected and doing a thorough search of their work area before continuing whatever it is they were doing. When working on something the “body” sits low to the ground to better distribute its mass and center of gravity. When alerted or otherwise searching for something it perks up, almost looking like some kind of massive flea. The gem on its head lights up like a kind of eye, as well.
Strengths; Dwarven Spiders attack almost the instant they detect something that isn’t another construct; their forearms move very fast and hurt quite a bit, and they use all of their legs to fight with. A common attack is jumping up and focusing all of their legs into a single point in a kind of kick. They can also discharge a painful electric shock. The larger Soldier or Guardian variants explode once killed, releasing a large amount of electricity into the immediate area so sticking around isn’t advised. Spiders also move around in small places easier than one might expect, travelling quickly through large pipes or crevices in walls. . On rare occasion, the Spider will follow a character around without attacking so long as no hostile action is taken against it.
Weaknesses; Dwarven Spiders aren’t actually that strong; they can generally be found in ruined areas, trying in vain to clear away the endless heaps of rubble with their little pickaxe-forearm-things—or in the presence of other automatons or other heavy machinery in need of repair. They’re intended as cheap repair drones; though diligent about their work, even the guard variants are easy to disassemble, particularly at range or with a baseball bat to the Spider’s joints or that spinning gyro on its back. They are capable of limited self-reassembly, however, so if the disassembly option is chosen, the Spiders parts should be removed from close proximity to one another and its Soul Gem power plant. Spiders are also not the quietest; even on soft surfaces their internal machinery makes a loud clanking, rattling noise.
Special powers/attacks: Mind that electric zap. It hurts. And may damage your magicka.

Is it edible? No.
Difficulty to fight: 1 for the most common “worker” variant, 2 for the much less common “guardian” variant.
Other: Their metal parts can easily be cannibalized for other uses (in Skyrim they drop things like Dwemer Gyros, Dwarven Oil and various gears as well as scrap metal, gemstones and metal ores). They also carry low-grade Soul Gems that probably won’t be useful in Discedo in the way they’re intended. But they are rather pretty.

Spiders can also be reprogrammed by technologically skilled characters, though Spiders run on enough magitech to make the user interface confusing if you have no experience with this sort of thing.

[ CANON ]
Monster Name: Dwarven Sphere
Canon: The Elder Scrolls
Species: Animunculus (Dwemer Automaton)
Description: A Dwarven Sphere is a machine-like creature made of golden metal just like Dwarven Spiders, spending most of their time in spherical form (hence the name) and rolling around as if patrolling something. In this travelling form, they’re about the same size as a large beach ball. When they detect a hostile, the Sphere unfolds upwards into a humanoid shape. They’re usually found around areas of heavy machinery, such as old factories and power plants. Damaged Spheres almost always have a handful of Spiders swarming them to repair the constructs into working order, as well.
Strengths; All Spheres are almost immune to recoil; for example, rather than being blown backwards by an Unrelenting Force Shout, they will “surf” along the Shout instead. Knocking them backwards by other means meets little success. Common Sphere variants have a spring-loaded short sword on one of their arms; Guardian and Master versions have a crossbow equipped to the other in addition to a sword. The bolts it fires hurt a lot; in Master variants the bolts are superheated and burn as well.
Weaknesses; Attacking the joints is best, though like Spiders wailing on them until their internal mechanisms are crushed or their Soul Gem power plants are disabled also works. They are also not very stealthy, clanking and venting steam as they travel.
Special powers/attacks: Nothing much besides the standard stabby stabby.

Is it edible? No
Difficulty to fight: 5 for the common variant (melee only), 6 for Guardians (crossbow ouch), and 8 for Masters which are really kind of rare all things considered.
Other: Dwarven Spheres drop the same kind of Dwemer scrap parts and Soul Gems that Spiders do, but on a larger scale.

Technologically skilled characters can “reprogram” Spheres, just as they can Spiders, though the same magitech is used in their creation and thus they don’t run Windows. Dwarven Spheres are much harder to reprogram in this way, however.
