Scientist PoV [Discedo]

The room with the machine was quiet. A proffered illusion of solitude. It made an ideal place for Jacqueline to go over the figures of her next experiment as she sorted out some... personal feelings. Namely regarding the incident on the 23rd. It had not gone as planned. Her calculations had been mistaken.

The effects had never been intended to be so silly.

The numbers she was writing out now would correct that. Her fingers moved across the faded notebook paper with a weighted slowness. Things may not have gone as planned, but she'd been... almost thankful. A bit of mixed up chaos was relatively harmless. No injuries. No deaths.

...But it had still been a failure from a scientific perspective and one she needed to correct. Most of the others might have accepted it as an eventuality of their profession perhaps, but a very specific one had become less lenient in regards to... excuses over the past few months.

"Jackie!" As if on some all-knowing cue Jay strutted through the door, arms spread in his usual theatrical persona. "Jackie, Jackie... I thought we talked about this?"

Things working out. Getting the most from these experiments. Really, this was just disappointing him. Lowering his arms he stepped over to eye her work. "I've been waiting. So what now?"

Despite the phrasing it wasn't really a question. Jacqueline's eyes slid to the side before returning to meet Jay's unsettling gaze. It was a feat that was becoming harder and harder to do lately. "You can't expect perfection in a week."

"No?" The surprise on Jay's face was clearly fake. But soon enough it slid into a smooth smile. "Maybe not. But why don't you think a little bigger?" Leaning down he met her gaze more evenly. "Or is that too much to ask? I can always take my turn."

Silence. "This is my experiment Jay," she finally stated coldly. He had no place in it. Even if she was... taking her time. He couldn't know her reasons. "A week. A week and I'll be ready for another try. ...I won't welcome interference."

"Well, good!"

With a cheery grin Jay straightened. His hand gripped Jacqueline's shoulder. It almost would have been reassuring if he didn't hold it so long, a self-assured smile on his face as he looked down at his fellow scientist.

"Who knows when they'd get sent back if we continued on failures." And as if that was the lightest thing he'd said he gave her shoulder a squeeze before letting go and stepping back. "Curtains rise once again in a week? I look forward to it, Jacqueline. I'm sure it'll be a big hit."
