+ a billion things

HI GUYS. This post covers A LOT of things, so please please please read it all.

Firstly: Supplies. This is just a reminder, not a telling off: even though things are a little easier for characters now, supplies are still scarce within the city. The scientists replenish supplies slowly, (though this is NOT IC knowledge) but they can only do so much. They aren't living it up in a huge palace while everyone else suffers. Characters are living a lot more comfortably than they were six months ago, but there's still barely enough to get by.

Secondly: There are two things about chips we're covering. One, we're making a rule: your character can't have their chip removed until you've been in the city for two weeks. Why? Because we feel that it's become a little too easy, honestly. You can still put in your chip removal request in the mod post, but we won't accept it until your character has been here for two weeks. Two: Newcomers from now on will find that their initial chip is in a different place. The scientists are tired of being pwned, so they're moving them. The new FIRST LOCATION will be announced along with the event, but the new second and third and so on will be hidden until we feel it important to reveal it.

Thirdly: We've been getting complaints about an 'evil filter'. It should be common sense, but you can't really filter posts to 'evil' people. People could lie, they could be on both sides, and you run the risk of a character you don't want reading it hacking into it. Please take care when filtering things to people!

Fourthly: We're making a few small changes to the application, and these will come into effect on Sunday. They're nothing major, so don't panic! You won't be forced to write a whole lot more, but we find that we're asking for additional first person samples a lot, so we're just adding on a little bit more. It'll save effort in the long run!

Fifthly and lastly: Guys, if there have been any IC developments in Discedo (such as running water, power, etc) either comment in the correct post on [livejournal.com profile] coniurati or email one of the mods or comment here or something! We try and keep up with everything, but we can't compile complete lists on our own, and we really need everyone's help.

Okay no I lied: event announcement soon, watch out for it!

Questions, comments, etc, don't be afraid to tell us.

Thumbs up n' understood on the policy changes! (Man, LJ, its a day for policy, huh?)

yaaaaaay, event!

[identity profile] crabbygenius.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 08:25 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, Evil filter... I admit, though, I would totally have played with that. "Chaotic neutral filter" for the win. ♥

First person samples are hard to show a person's character through when they all have the same "omg i'm not in kansas anymore" idea. Maybe a recommended prompt or something would help?

[identity profile] invisible-ai.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 09:12 am (UTC)(link)
Not to butt in, but hearing that has actually given me a bit of relief. I have struggled with the first person sample in apps mostly because I didn't know what was expected of it. So, perhaps for a lack of imagination and time, I felt pressured to do what has worked for me or others before me. Other than that, I don't have much of an excuse for myself.

I definitely agree that some kind of new information or a recommended prompt would be a big help.

[identity profile] ex-enables28.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 09:15 am (UTC)(link)
It's not butting in at all! We honestly love getting feedback from you guys, and we appreciate as much as we can get. We'll clarify it in the applications post itself, if that helps.

[identity profile] morethanwin.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 05:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you say that it's easier to write first person from their canon, but personally I'd never written something like that before coming to Disc, with the communicators and all making for all spoken words instead of descriptions of actions, their feelings, expressions, etc. I wouldn't know how to properly insert something like that into canon without it just be a bunch of talking.

About that- for the first person samples in the apps. If one were to write something like they did in the third person sample but with first person pronouns and all (I, me, "I looked around" etc.), would that be acceptable too, since that is also first person perspective? Or does it all have to be spoken words?

Am I making sense? orz

[identity profile] forcedpsychosis.livejournal.com 2008-06-02 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, thanks. :Db

One more thing then; for the first person sample, would something like a diary entry or other written-type deal work, then? I think that would help me wrap my brain around the idea of writing that kind of first person in the character's canon, and make me feel less like they're monologuing to no one XD; If not, though, that's fine.

[identity profile] ex-enables28.livejournal.com 2008-06-02 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
I don't see why it wouldn't! o/

[identity profile] the-blueblur.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 09:48 am (UTC)(link)
Read it all-- Thank you!

The chip thing is getting a bit easy, I did see that.. Interested in seeing where the new place is. |)

I couldn't help but giggle at the 'evil filter'... I watched waaaay too much Neuro last night.

[identity profile] ex-enables28.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 10:24 am (UTC)(link)
No, thank you for reading it!

Yeah, it's something that we've been concerned over for a while, so we thought that it was probably a good idea to get it handled. Hopefully this location won't be so quickly revealed. XD

I did too, honestly!

[identity profile] the-blueblur.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 06:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I think one of the reasons the whereabouts of the chip become known so easily is because once a character finds out... they tell other characters and those characters just can't keep a good secret in. Sonic's definitely guilty of that. ^^

I would have liked to see Ai in the show. :

[identity profile] the-blueblur.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahhh, I remember that... Because the secret got out with him, right?

Well! It'll be interesting!

[identity profile] totalbeginner.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. XD People were trying to keep it hush-hush, and then Demyx and Roxas slipped up, and then Kadaj announced it to everyone.

bwah THANK YOU +_+ the chip thing was getting especially D: with me. i mean, come on, part of the fun is figuring out what the heck's going on!

the filter thing was kind of weird too...struck me as a bit godmodish because some evil characters don't make themselves KNOWN as evil and the like. also again with letting people figure things out >__> (also players might not know whether their characters will be in the filter, as every character in the game cannot feasibly know every evil/good/whatev character; at least put their names on the filter =\)

in all, THX GUYS ♥

[identity profile] sheathed.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
that's another big thing. also because a lot of them could be doing WRONG but not necessarily evil, and not to mention like i said, some people will know that some characters are bad, while others don't. it might be hard for such players to know whether their character should be on a list...either way it's just a weird filter xD

although to be honest i wish there were less filtered posts in general, but that's another story ;3

[identity profile] totalbeginner.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it is. XD I wish there were less filtered posts too, honestly. XD But even as a mod, telling people not to filter stuff would undoubtedly just end in getting things thrown at me.

[identity profile] too-green-eyes.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I just sorta WTF'd about the filter, honestly. I mean, I recently put "all established nasties" as a blockade on a filter on Razer's journal, but that's just 'cause I don't want to list out all the names. It's not all the nasty people, it's all the nasty people Razer is ICly aware of. :| Palm pilots do not discern moral alignment, unfortunately.

...Question, though. What's this about the Discedo Lake being saltwater? I can't remember hearing anything about it anywhere, and now I'm confused. o_O

[personal profile] playwitchu 2008-05-31 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I do admit that it is easy to figure out where the chip is and finding someone to remove it is even easier. I know for a fact someone lets say, Soren, he learned about it first day here, where it was and who to go in order to get it removed. Of course his IC reaction would be to want to get it out out once.

I giggled at the 'evil filter' but at the same time was confused. Because if people could do something like that, then one day a character will get the bright idea to make a filter of that, demand all of the 'good' people to respond to it and there you go! All of the evil characters will be exposed like Sai who has been hiding the fact that he is indeed one of those evil people.

Whoohoo! I can't wait to see the changes to the app! Also, dang... I was pretty long-winded there wasn't I? o_oa
playwitchu: (Can't Take My Eyes Off of You~)

[personal profile] playwitchu 2008-06-01 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah it is. I still don't have Soren's chip out but I am totally willing to make the grumpy one suffer for two weeks before getting it out. >3 Like with Sai, I will probably ask for approval for him first before actually going about the steps of getting it out (poor Sai waited a couple of weeks after getting approved before he gotten his chip out. XD). I personally loved the challenge that Sai brought about with getting his chip removed so I am totally looking forward to your challenges. BRING IT ON, SUCKA!

Do it. I want to hear a joke. 8D Yeah, it was hard for me because who actually knew that Sai is evil and how would they know that? There was a couple of posts that I wanted to respond to but since they were 'filtered' I couldn't. I know that I am totally guilty of the whole filtered thing too but I dunno. XD

Okay! XD

[identity profile] ankokutenshi.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay, I understand.

Sorry about that.

[identity profile] invisible-ai.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Actually, I'm not sure if this applies to any of the comments and changes noted on this post in particular, but I would like to make a suggestion. Personally, I have been having some trouble keeping track of all of the characters who have gone on hiatus. In fact, a friend of mind made the mistake of relying on a character for something without the foreknowledge that she was on hiatus. Quite troublesome. Eventually, that smoothed over, but I think it sort of brought things to my attention.

For me, I know that I have a hard time keeping track of who goes on and off their time off, and end up paying more attention to the active entries than backtracking to the OOC com notices. I'm shameless, I know. Is there something we can do to sort this out a little better?

[identity profile] ex-enables28.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
The only way to do that would be to have a post in [livejournal.com profile] coniurati for hiatuses, and in my past experience they don't work entirely well if they aren't introduced from the start. We could give it a go, though, since it's actually incredibly frustrating for US to have to use the community to go back and find who's on hiatus for ACs, especially since some people go on 'indefinite hiatuses' and never come back.

[identity profile] sheathed.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
i'd be all for trying a hiatus post too. it could definitely be very helpful :D and hey, if it doesn't work it doesn't work rite?

[identity profile] totalbeginner.livejournal.com 2008-05-31 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Awright! /o/ I'll discuss it with the other mods, and give it a shot.

[identity profile] ultimatepower.livejournal.com 2008-06-01 05:43 pm (UTC)(link)
XD Sorry about the filter thing. DArk Angel used it and it didn't seem to be a problem, so I sort of decided to roll with it? I do like Razer's thing better though. Although it was less roflworthy than the moral alignment comment of VK's. XD
