Game Calendar + Apps
Okay guys, two things!
First, it's just about time to share with you the Game Calendar! It is a Google calendar, but everyone can access it and interact with it at a read-only level. It very interactive otherwise - clicking the individual events and going to "more details>>" will bring you to links! And other info! As you can see, it doesn't have everything back to the beginning of the game (there's nothing before June, and it's rather sparse in June and July), but it does function rather well in terms of helping players get up to speed with the game if they've gone on hiatus or missed a post.
Please put it in your bookmarks! It is not a particularly nice and simple URL, so you should save it now if you plan to use it as a resource. If you lose the link, you can come ask one of us and we should have it handy. If something has been missed, just drop me (Adri) a line on AIM (misstakin22) and I'll add it right away.
The second thing, and much more important, is that we're revamping our apps. We have a couple things that we definitely want to do, but we want your input! Please be aware that we can't take all suggestions, but we know you guys quite often have some good ideas and we want to hear them.
Here's what we'd like to do:
That's it! We'll be announcing the official changes sometime this week, after everyone's had a say, and they'll most likely be put in place for apps that will be processed on October 3rd. That means that for this Sunday, we'll still be accepting the old apps, but after that we'll be wanting to see the adjusted apps only.
Thanks guys!

Here's what we'd like to do:
* Tighten up on grammar and formatting. These things are no-brainers guys. Make sure your paragraphs are spaced properly so that we're not faced with a wall of text, and run your apps through a spelling and grammar check before you submit them. This is more just a heads up if anything.
* Change the "What your character can offer" section to a simple "Powers and Abilities" section. We know it's a fairly arbitrary section, and it's more important for us just to know what your character can do and how the chip will affect that.
* Add a section for links to previous threads and logs if the character has been played before (in another game, a dressing room, or dear_mun). We received a suggestion for this a while back and we quite like it. This section would not, however, be a replacement for samples, and we wouldn't want to see anyone shirking any effort on their samples just because they can provide a link where they are confident in their characterization.

I am also cool with the app stuff, although I am wondering, would the spelling and grammar requirements go into effect retroactively? That is, will you be asking anyone to improve or leave who is already in the game? Personally I do not think you should do that, although I always support good grammar.

We will not be hunting people down who are already in the game and asking them to improve. That kind of thing can wait for HMD if other players notice it, and we certainly don't have the time to be paying special attention to that.

AWESOME DOOD. /touches modchans

No yeah we know we need open spaces as well, and we'll make sure to keep spaces open for them when needed.

Seriously, that calendar is glorious and the changes on apps just seem to be an all around good thing. I am pleased~

Would the links in applications be mandatory, or just an optional addition along with samples?

That being said, small changes are small and I don't mind them otherwise. The Game Calendar is lovely and definitely much-needed! Thanks for your work. ♥

(Anonymous) 2010-09-21 10:16 am (UTC)(link)I know that it's used for new characters as well as people who have hiatused for a long period of time during the month, and while I do like the idea as a whole, I think that it could use a little tweaking. For newbies this doesn't really apply, since they have to ICly intro in a post, but I've found that when you're around for very little of the month, it's easier to tag other people than to think of a substantial post.
What I'm trying to say is - would it be at all feasible to mix up the conditions a little bit, and make them more flexible? Reduced requirements as they are are only two less threads than you need to pass under normal conditions, and tagging other people is a lot easier to some than making posts.
I'm not suggesting this for normal AC, (coming up with one post a month isn't exactly hard, and the conditions aren't hard to reach either) but especially if Discedo's in the middle of a plot when you return from hiatus, getting in that extra post isn't always so easy.

Aand im all for the app revamp thingie, especially the second part. I know for a fact i've had a discussion with people about the 'what your character can offer' section (helping with apps) and somebeody thought that if the did a bad job on that section, it could get them rejected.... THE THINGS PEOPLE GET CONFUSED BY so yea just sharing that
