Exploration - Part II
Hey guys! So pupdate! Sign ups for the exploration plot are open until April 13th, meaning after that, if you haven't signed up, you're out of luck. For those of you who've placed UNDECIDED as your volunteering for the "special" death, you've until then to decide, in which case if you haven't given a definite answer, it will default to 'no'.
ALSO because of the delay (which i apologize for), you'll have until about Friday Evening to definitely put 'yes/no' on the special death option.
So let's get down to business:
DAY-BY-DAY
April 13-14th; DEPARTURE AND TRAVEL. Yes, my friends, Friday the Thirteenth is clearly the optimal day to depart. Departure should be around morning to give the crew a head start on adventure. You're all prepared for about a two week trip, so it works out just fine.
The journey itself will be mild and calm even. Along the shore lines are trees and monsters. Occasionally characters will see some remnants of the life on Discedo, however it's very minimal. Drift wood, broken parts of pontoon boats, shredded floaty toys stuck in the reeds. But most of it isn't worth looking at, and even if you do, there's nothing to discover.
April 15-16th; Two days of travel, and things start looking up; or down. It's strange though. As you sail along, small cottages begin to show up. They're ravaged and desolate; any stops inside will prove fruitless. Many of them look as though they were simply abandoned, however as you move further and further along the shore, there seems to have been more... activity in the cottages. Doors are left hanging open, outside ornaments are flipped on their sides, tool sheds have had all of their contents thrown out into the yard.
If characters decide to visit any of these cottages, they'll find the inside has been turned over. Cupboards are flung open, books are strewn about, tables are turned; there have definitely been people through these cottages at some point. Character players are safe, judging by the layer of dust that covers everything that's been overturned.
Well. They're safe for now; can't say about later.
On the evening of April 16th, or next Monday, characters will reach a small shore town. Ohhh how EXCITING. Keep your panties on, guys. It's too late by the time you arrive to fully investigate, and the risk of unknown wild monsters is too great. Characters will spend the night here.
April 17th; Finally morning comes and it's time to explore! The cottages here will be much like those that were previously investigated, with one exception. Characters are going to find the cottages here in town have been much more recently investigated. Signs of other life here, perhaps? Perhaps other kidnapees who the scientist keep separate from the rest of you?
Characters are welcome to explore wherever they want; think of what might be found in a small town with about 6,000 people and that's likely what you'll find there. Townhall, fire department, shops and a grocery store. Much like the rest of Discedo, a lot of it is run down, broken, though the only significant damage seems to be a result of rot.
One particular newspaper clipping will be found on this day, bringing you to further your investigation.

A full day's search isn't going to cover the entire village, but with some of the finds you've gotten so far, another day's stay can't hurt?
NIGHTTIME is when things are finally going to go sour. ONE (1) player character is going to go missing this night for about an hour. What exactly is going on?
Some familiar foes have had their eye on characters since they stepped ashore, moving in only the very edges of peripheral vision. Some may feel uneasy, like something is off just enough to raise hackles. Too bad the protection Charon's little troupe doesn't extend this far, because those shadowy skin stealers are lurking around. Even worse, they're not alone this time. But for now, let's focus on the immediate threat, shall we?
One of the player characters will be replaced by a doppelganger, and a damned clever one at that. The character for this part will be randomly selected from those willing volunteers who op to be a "special death". There will be more on this later in the post, so if you're interested in this, please make sure you read that!
April 18; By now the missing player character (now a skin stealer) will have returned as normal as ever. Characters are invited to go back to investigating the area. With the help of the news paper clipping that was found, you will be able to locate the area of the time capsule sometime around the end of the day.
There can be several volunteers to find it, so if you would like to, just say so!
When investigated, the time capsule will still be there. The cement block that protects it is broken, but through a small hole one can see that it is still inside. Damage and over growth makes it difficult to get to the time capsule at present. For now, returning back to camp to see how to approach the situation is the best approach.
The night of the 18th will depend on the number of players signed up; While we guarantee at least one skin stealer will infiltrate the group, if the size of the group is relatively LARGE, we could get up to four skin stealers (or more depending on how this plays out really). The remaining skin stealers will join the group on this night. Characters will not know that others are being replaced, as it's done extremely covertly. The bodies of victims will be hidden away--probably in a shallow grave somewhere or dumped into the lake--so that there's no signs that anything is wrong. This means that the real versions of characters won't be revived until the end of the event.Don't worry bros, the Scientists will get you back. They just... need to get the bodies first. It's kinda like that book/movie Holes, except instead of outlaw treasure they're looking for skinned corpses.
BUT!!!! This will happen: ATTEMPTED. MURDER. That's right guys IT'S TIME TO START DYING. ONE (1) volunteer will be given the chance to be murdered. Whether or not it actually happens will AGAIN depend on the number of characters part of the plot. We don't want to kill you all off instantly you see. If you volunteer for this, there is a 50-50 chance your character will die, basically.
There will be a second post covering who is a skin stealer, who is a volunteer, and refreshing all of this in a much shorter fashion.
April 19; Morning brings about uneasiness, especially knowing that there is a murderer in the area. The woods outside are loud with suspicious sounds and ruffles. It feels like someone is constantly following you. you might THINK you catch a glimpse of them, too, but they're gone before you can do anything. Characters are invited to returning to the time capsule to unearth it, but complications and possible dangers are going to slow you down.
In the evening, while everyone is finally cooling down, the enemy will openly attack! It seems that a group of marauders--half of them human, half of them pretending to be human (read: skin takers), though really it's impossible to tell unless you cut them open--have been watching you since you arrived at their village, and they're clearly not happy with whats going on. Clumsy characters are at a high risk to die, though stronger characters should be able to fight off the mutant humans before anything really dangerous happens.
Character death is possible at this point, though with only a handful of opponents, most of you, if not all of you should be safe.
April 20; Congratulations. TGIF.
A day of rest for all of you. It's best to heal up from your wounds while you still can. While you wait, you have a choice to make.
When the time comes, will you flee, or will you fight?
STAY TUNED. FURTHER DETAILS TO COME. In the mean time, I realize that was a lot, and if you're confused PLEASE ask questions. I'm going to go into the skin stealer stuff below, so again please keep your panties on because seriously guys.
Seriously.
Skin Stealers
Older players might remember them from this plot, but I'll give you a fast rundown, because they're a little smarter than they were before.
The skin stealers are a special kind of monster who can, as their name implies, steal another characters skin and essentially take over the fleshy interior left over. They become the character entirely; though, unlike last time, the skin stealers are DEAD-ON with their interpretation of their victim's personality, and they have a much more vicious tendency, as you've seen from the plot explanation.
The skin stealers are much better liars, too, so they aren't about to 'accidentally' blow their cover, aside from the few highlighted points.
How we're picking the skin stealers:
In the exploration sign up there is a forth question: "Would you like to sign up for a 'special' death?" Becoming a skin stealer IS that 'special' death. From those that pick 'yes' for this option, we'll be randomly selecting from the list who will be a skin stealer.
What happens to my character if he's got no skin?!
Welp. They're dead. And will be held hostage until the end of the event.
Okay that's a rip off. I wanted to play on the exploration.
OH BUT YOU WILL (8. Like before, YOU get the play the skin stealer. Keep in mind that even though your character isn't REALLY himself, you still have to stay IC while the Skin stealer is pretending. Near the end you'll get to play around more with the
ALL POSITION SIGN UPS (MURDER/FINDING ITEMS) WILL BE IN THE NEXT POST This way everyone can see and talk about what they want to have happen.
Now, everyone who is participating: I need you all to get together in this post and talk about who should do what, what you might want to do, HOW you want to do it, whatever sparks your fancy. I'll be reading this too to get an idea of what's going on, and also because I'm a player in the plot too.
Also, my question for you guys is this: would you like one BIG log for every day of the plot so you could interact and what have you, or would you like to make posts at your discretion for each day of the event? PLEASE talk this out too. edit; I should probably note that there WILL be a final log, but i'll talk more about that later
If you have any questions you want to give me privately, please get me on plurk (breadmantic) or AIM (Maypie Lord). OR there's a questions comment below that you can hit up, too.
